Yesterday I talked about my extreme postpartum hunger. Words like "ravenous" and "beast-like" were used, and I don't use those words lightly. Now, I've never been one to miss a meal. Ever. I'm not one of those people who "forgets" to eat. Like, how does one even do that? But the other day, I was the inadvertent meal-skipper. I had my son's (I have a son! Weird!) first appointment at the pediatrician at 1:20 p.m. Between getting my daughter down for her nap, getting the baby fed, burped, changed and car-seated up, I got out of the house without eating lunch. A few reasons I never skip meals? Besides that it's bad for you? 1) I like food. 2) I get super cranky and 3) I get shaky. Really, really shaky. I made it to the doctor's office, and my hands were shaking like leaves. I dug in my purse, praying I had a Luna bar still in there. I got excited when I saw the edge of a wrapper...until I discovered it was just a wrapper. Dealing with bone-crushing disappointment, I came across a baggie of Cheerios meant for my daughter. I started shoving those things in my mouth as fast as I could. Lesson learned? Always carry a handy snack, like one of these.
